Home Grown Lettuce

I feel fortunate in saying that I grew up on home gardened lettuce from Papa's yard. It taught me very early in life that home grown food just tasted better. The only lettuce Mom bought was Iceberg, and to this day it tastes flavorless to me. The lettuces in the photo are from last year and both the Lollo Rosso to the left and Merlot to the right have volunteered to come back. I can't speak for the Frisee, an endive rather than a lettuce, but I think it may not have had a chance to reseed, because I was collecting it's seeds as fast as they were drying. I was also using its flowers for salads, and sacrificed some seeds in that process.
