Gypsy Farewell

The last of the Gypsy hyacinths are starting to fade. Usually a March arrival, this year they started in February after a week of unusual warmth. Luckily they did not all bloom at once, so their "season" lasted longer. It was surprising that the plants in the ground developed faster than those in earthenware pots. One would think that the potted bulbs would have been warmed up sooner and triggered into an earlier bloom. With all its order and interconnectedness, you'd think there would be no mysteries left in nature.
